‘This is Hamilton…’ first began as our final Major Research Project with the Institute on Globalization and the Human Condition. As graduate school was coming to an end, we noticed this project and documentary taking on a life all its own…so we have let it become our lives. We are Layla Mashkoor and Nicole Rallis, and our documentary uses Hamilton as a case study to challenge traditional theoretical perspectives on urban governmentality, and to examine ‘the city’ as a new space of politics. Through the artistic medium of film we aim to converge personal and historical accounts of Hamilton to develop a more holistic perspective on the messiness of urban studies, human geography, and the politics of space and time.
Layla Mashkoor and Nicole Rallis have completed their Masters degree in Global Studies with the Institute on Globalization and the Human Condition at McMaster University. Layla Mashkoor also has a Bachelor of Journalism and Human Rights, with a minor in English Literature from Carleton University. Nicole Rallis holds a Joint Honours Degree in Politics and History from Trent University.
Mark Hoyne is joining Layla and Nicole to film the project. He recently finished a Post-Graduate Advanced Filmmaking program at Fanshawe College and has a Bachelor of Film Studies from Carleton University
